Brevet Sergeant Daryl Wayne Mundy, 54, is facing charges for allegedly failing to stop at a crash scene and give his details to authorities and another driver involved.

Until recently, Mundy was deputy president of the sleazy shit show that is the Police Association of South Australia. Last year it was reported that serving officers and female police union staff were regularly bullied and belittled by a “boys’ club” of senior PASA officials – including Mundy.

Mundy, of Rosewater, has now faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court charged with one count of failing to stop and give particulars to persons at a crash scene and one count of failing to give particulars about a crash to a police officer.

It is alleged the offences occurred after Mundy was involved in a crash on Morphett St, Adelaide on February 7 this year.

At the time, Mundy was campaigning for re-election in the PASA general elections.

He was promoted from PASA’s vice-president to deputy-president in July last year and retained that role until he was ousted at the elections in March.

Under the Australian Road Rules, drivers involved in a crash must provide their name and address, the name and address of the owner of the vehicle, the vehicle’s registration number and any other information necessary to identify the vehicle to any other people involved in the crash as well as to police.

This information must be provided as soon as possible but in exceptional circumstances, within 24 hours of a crash.

Mundy did not enter a plea when he appeared in court on May 20.

His case was adjourned until July 1.

The incident is the latest in a series of controversies involving the police union. Last year it was revealed the current president, Wade Burns, sexually assaulted a female colleague at an Adelaide nightclub in 2017.

Because Wade’s daddy is former police commissioner Gary Burns, the only disciplinary action taken by SAPOL for the assault was to demote him by two ranks – one of which was later reinstated upon appeal.

In response to negative press, in February SAPOL pretended to ‘reopen’ an investigation into Burns, then quietly closed the matter with no further action taken.

The formerly suppressed details of the 2017 assault only came to light after MP Frank Pangallo aired them in parliament.

Despite knowing the married father of two assaulted a female SAPOL employee, Burns was re-elected by SAPOL members as PASA president, confirming that the police force really is full of sleazy, misogynistic, sex predator shitbags.

SA Police declined to comment, while PASA did not respond to The Advertiser’s request for comment.
