SAPOL Cop Found Guilty of Sexually Abusing His 15 Year Old Stepdaughter

A former South Australian police officer has been found guilty of sexually abusing his teenage stepdaughter.

The creepy cop, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his victim, claimed the 15-year-old made up the allegations because she fantasised about having sex with him.

The former cop had pleaded not guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and one count of indecent assault.

The girl had told her boyfriend and a school counselor that she had been sexually abused by an older man in September or October 2021.

The court heard during the trial earlier this month that the abuse happened after the officer had been drinking with the child in their family home.

The policeman gave the victim a foot massage, prosecutor Ben Sturm told the jury. “Then he put his hands on her leg and gradually began moving up,” he said.

Sturm said the officer pulled the teenager onto his lap and kissed her.

He then “climbed on top of her and kissed her neck, he then started feeling all over her body and then put his hands down her pants”, the court was told.

The court heard the girl had a bite mark on her neck the next morning, which her stepfather told her to “pretend was an irritation”.

After he found out the teen had told her counselor about his abuse, the police officer called his partner, told her what he had done to her daughter and said he would kill himself, the jury heard.

The police found the man shortly afterwards on the edge of a cliff.

Sadly, a strong gust of wind did not come along before

He made admissions about engaging in sexual conduct with the victim, Sturm said.

The officer admitted on the phone to the victim’s mother that he had “f***ed up”, that he kissed the teen and “other things”, but didn’t want to say what those other things were, the jury was told.

He admitted to the officer who found him at the clifftop that “it’s about my stepdaughter, I f***** up”, the court heard.

Sturm said those admissions were “very powerful … they are really conclusive of his guilt of those acts”.

The prosecutor said the police officer had told the victim he “thought it was a dream that I had, like I didn’t think it actually happened” and that he had ruined her childhood.

The police officer also told the girl that if she told anyone he would kill himself, the court heard.

But his barrister, Paul Rice KC, blamed the victim. He told the jury the victim could have had a motive to lie about the allegations.

“She hated him and/or she fantasised being with him in some sexual way and he did not reciprocate and she decided it was time for him to go,” Rice said, adding that it was “a false allegation”.

The police officer told the girl that if she told anyone about the abuse he would kill himself.

He said the officer’s “suicide attempt … was not an acknowledgment of guilt, but of defeat and despair”.

“We suggest that you should have a reasonable doubt about the guilt of the accused and find him not guilty on all of the matters.”

The jury found the police officer guilty in relation to the two unlawful sexual intercourse charges, and not guilty of the indecent assault charge.

The man will return to court in November before sentencing submissions later in the year.
