Nasty, Hateful SAPOL Commissioner Grant Stevens Wants Us to Feel Sorry For Him

South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens’ 18-year-old son Charlie died in November 2023, a day after he suddenly ran onto a road into the path of a vehicle that had swerved to avoid hitting Steven’s friends, who had stepped from the other side of the road into the vehicle’s path.

Shortly after Charlie Stevens died, a Millicent man sent Grant Stevens an email that read:

“Sucked in c***.”

Like most parents would do, Stevens became enraged.

Unlike most parents, and unlike most people who have been harassed and threatened by vile internet stalkers for years on end without any assistance and often total indifference from SAPOL, Stevens’ position as cop commissioner meant the 36 year-old man was promptly arrested for this single, three-word email.

The man was convicted in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court last Monday for using a carriage service in a harassing or offensive way over the email he sent on November 18, 2023, to Stevens’s personal SA Police email account.

He was ordered to perform 150 hours of community service within 12 months and pay prosecution costs of $512.

Law Society of South Australia president Marissa Mackie told the Sunday Mail prosecuting a charge on the basis of a single email was rare.

When it comes to SAPOL, getting any action whatsoever against people who troll, harass and threaten you for years on end is not just rare, but near impossible. But when you’re an overpaid, high-ranking, taxpayer-funded bureaucrat, you get to play by a different set of rules.

Not only does Grant Stevens enjoy immediate action in response to a single, three-word email that contained no threats and did not even begin to constitute stalking or ongoing harassment, but he expects us all to feel sorry for him.

In an ’emotional’ statement to the Sunday Mail, Stevens claimed the message had a lasting impact.

“This deeply offensive and hurtful message was sent to me within hours of the loss of my son, causing significant distress,” he said.

“The nature of this vile message was beyond what anyone would expect, regardless of their occupation.”

In what must be some kind of sick joke, the Sunday Mail claimed Stevens “is now urging others who receive ‘abhorrent’ electronic abuse to speak up and report it.”

Most people who have already tried just that will tell you it is a complete waste of time. SAPOL only cares about nasty email messages when they are directed towards SAPOL.

Before Grant Stevens starts complaining about lasting impacts, he should engage in some serious reflection about the lasting impacts of his open approval of police brutality.

Gaurav Kundi’s family have definitely suffered lasting impacts, not from a nasty email, but from the police murder of the beloved husband and father-of-two. Not only have they lost a loved one, but they’re still waiting for his body and answers as the corrupt SAPOL and Office of Public Integrity collude to produce a whitewash report.

Nathan Cross has suffered lasting brain damage after being violently slammed headfirst into a counter while handcuffed and restrained by serial police thug Benjamin Higgins – who the disgusting Stevens publicly praised after another incident in which Higgins was caught coward-punching a handcuffed man.

Before anyone starts feeling sorry for  Grant Stevens, they should remember the disgraceful manner in which he and his goons behaved towards the late Coen Fraser and his family.

Coen was the truck driver who died in 2019 just days before his 27th birthday, after being forced to swerve to avoid a collision in low-visibility conditions. He was hailed as a hero for both sacrificing his own life to avoid colliding with a car in his path and attempting to alert other drivers to the hazard. Another truck driver, Brendan Giles, 64, was also killed in the horrific crash.

SAPOL and Stevens, however, promptly set about both blaming Coen and Giles, and harassing Coen’s family.

Stevens said during a press conference that while the dust storm could be a ‘contributing’ factor (it was THE factor), dangerous driving or distraction on the part of the truck drivers was to blame.

Not satisfied with publicly defaming the innocent and deceased men, immediately after the accident SAPOL goons raided the transport company where Coen’s mother and uncle worked. Coen did not work at the business and therefore the company was not in any way involved with the accident. Despite being informed of this, SAPOL proceeded to treat the grieving family members like criminals.

After receiving the heart-breaking news of Coen’s death, SAPOL kept the family members hostage and would not let them leave to attend the accident scene.

Heaven forbid the whiny, self-absorbed Stevens stop to consider the lasting impact this shocking behavior has had on Coen’s mum, uncle and the rest of their family.

Despite being in the wrong, a police spokeswoman told the Advertiser that Stevens stood by his comments even though “the investigation into the circumstances was continuing.”

Coen Fraser, falsely accused of dangerous driving by SAPOL’s top sociopath, Grant Stevens.

The repulsive behavior of Stevens and SAPOL drew a heated response from Steve Shearer, Executive Director of the South Australian Road Transport Association.

“The Commissioner would or should have known that Coen was crawling along at 45km/h, when he came across that vehicle,” a livid Shearer said. “When he came across that vehicle, he immediately alerted the drivers behind him and made an instantaneous decision to go around that vehicle, not knowing what was coming.”

“It is not acceptable,” said Shearer. “It was neither necessary, nor reasonable. It’s unconscionable and we are extremely angry. They would not let those individuals leave the premises and go to the scene. They (SAPOL) would not answer their questions about what happened.”

Commenting on the possibility that Steven’s comments may have arisen from genuine ignorance, Shearer pointed out that Stevens should “keep his mouth shut until he is armed with the full facts.”

As we recently reported, Grant Stevens has a long history of shooting his mouth off about matters he knows nothing about. His renewed appointment as South Australia police commissioner underscores what a complete farce Australian policing really is.

Not only is he an ignorant clown with a fetish for putting his foot in his mouth, Grant Stevens is the last person to be criticizing other people’s driving. Not only does he preside over SAPOL, home to some of South Australia’s worst drivers, but in 2018 he rear-ended a stationary motorist, causing almost $5,000 damage.

The accident was 100% his fault. The female motorist was waiting in a slip lane to Main South Rd, when Stevens’ black Holden Calais sedan crashed into her rear bumper at 25km/h.

According to redacted documents viewed by the Advertiser, Stevens believed the motorist had driven off, even though her vehicle remained stationary.

No explanation was given as to how or why Stevens concluded a stationary vehicle was in fact moving. Perhaps he was told this by the same part of his brain that regularly convinces him he can speak confidently on topics he doesn’t have a clue about.
