Asshole Cop Cameron Devey Pushed Another Officer to Suicide – and SAPOL Did Nothing About It

That cretin is former SAPOL Chief Inspector Cameron Devey. After driving an innocent officer to suicide, he quietly left the SAPOL sewer to take up another high-paying job as deputy chief officer at the Metropolitan Fire Service.

While at SAPOL, Devey oversaw the South Australia Police Band, a position he used to behave like an asshole towards band member Sergeant Russell Nash.

This is not speculation – an SA Police internal investigation confirmed severe workplace bullying by Devey contributed to long-serving Nash taking his own life.

Driving an innocent person to kill themselves is a serious offence, but the lowlifes at SAPOL get their panties wet every time police actions cause someone to become “unresponsive”.

So when SAPOL’s Internal Investigation Section, also known as the Whitewash Department, investigated the matter, their only action was to suggest to Devey that he “self-reflect” on his management style.

That was it. No criminal charges, no termination, no suspension, not even a wanky little SAPOL reprimand.

“Devey, your bullying drove another man to suicide. How does that make you feel?”

“Well, as a psychopathic c**t, I don’t feel anything. I couldn’t give a f**k about how my actions affect other people. How do you think I reached Chief Inspector rank in a thoroughly rotten organisation like SAPOL? By being a decent human being?!?”

“Great answer, Devey, a true testament to SAPOL! See you at the pub for the end of shift piss-up!”

To help further sweep the matter under the rug, Devey quietly resigned from SAPOL and took up a position with the the Metropolitan Fire Service, where he gets paid way too much to pretend to be a deputy chief officer.

The damning revelations were aired in the Coroner’s Court this week.

Despite a senior IIS investigator concluding the bullying allegations against Devey were substantiated, they recommended an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Giving evidence to the court, a clown called Chief Inspector Damien Epps – who then held a managerial role within the Whitewash Department – defended the decision, explaining that investigators favoured “mediation” over formal discipline.

Counsel assisting the coroner ,Darren Evans, asked how mediation was supposed to occur when Sgt Nash had already died.

“The ADR process wasn’t talking about this process, it was about giving feedback to the individuals that were involved in that, including Mr Devey, in terms of their management and management style,” Epps replied in classic SAPOL bullshit fashion.

Under further questioning, Epps conceded mediation was never a viable option given Sgt Nash was deceased.

Evans then pressed whether this response set a troubling precedent for future bullying complaints.

“Do you accept if I say that that’s particularly concerning – a concerning approach – particularly if a member of the police in future makes a complaint of bullying and it’s substantiated and comes from multiple sources that the official approach of SAPOL might be to give that person an opportunity to reflect,” Evans asked.

“Do you accept that that’s a concerning scenario?”

Epps, in classic evasive SAPOL fashion, did not directly answer the question. Instead, he repeated his view the matter should never have been escalated to their internal investigation section and was best suited for mediation despite Sgt Nash’s death.

Like a lot of cops, Epps has the IQ of a statue.

He is also a liar.

Epps’ involvement was further scrutinised after court proceedings revealed he had formally declared a conflict of interest regarding the investigation into Devey.

Epps stated his role after the declaration was strictly limited to “administrative moves of the file” and attending meetings that addressed “the progress of the file, but not the actual content of the investigations”.

Yet a contrasting email surfaced showing Epps explicitly wrote that he had “reviewed” the file, detailed its contents, and backed the determination of the officer-in-charge.

Defending his actions, Epps maintained he had acted appropriately on the grounds he was not directly running the investigation and was simply briefing senior leadership.

The documents pertaining SA Police’s internal investigation into Devey were made public after State Coroner David Whittle served summons papers to Police Commissioner Grant Stevens.

Stevens – as the SA Police authority responsible for deciding whether the organisation will release internal investigation documents – had previously refused to provide the records to the Coroner’s Court by invoking controversial secrecy powers.

The crucial documents were eventually surrendered to the court.

Other dubious characters who have been named as potentially contributing to Nash’s death are Assistant Commissioner Phillip Newitt and shonky cop Christine Baulderstone, now laughably the head of investigations at pretend anti-corruption outfit ICAC.
