SAPOL Sergeant Mark Andrew Orford to Stand Trial on Domestic Violence and Abuse of Public Office Charges
The Adelaide Magistrates Court recently ordered Sergeant Mark Andrew Orford to stand trial on allegations of assault and abuse of public office.
The greying, bespectacled and alleged corrupt perpetrator of domestic violence was arrested and charged in June 2025 with two counts of assault, possessing or using a dangerous article, and using information to secure a benefit as a public officer.
Orford allegedly subjected his then-partner to domestic violence and also used his power to cause detriment to her life, the court heard.
The assault charges relate to separate incidents of domestic violence dating back to 2005 and 2008 in Prospect in Adelaide’s inner northern suburbs.
The abuse of office charge stems from an alleged incident in Adelaide’s north in July 2022.
Court documents further ask the court to order forfeiture of a canister of pepper spray, suggesting Orford was in possession of pepper spray for personal use.

In September last year, SA Police said Sergeant Orford had been suspended with pay.
A sergeant at the corrupt SAPOL receives $122,740 to $135,363 in annual salary.
When 7News asked why Orford was still being paid, SAPOL wouldn’t comment, only confirming he had been suspended from the force.
“Domestic abuse is unacceptable and SAPOL does not tolerate domestic abuse from its employees,” a SAPOL spokesman claimed, despite it now being a matter of record that the sleazy force repeatedly looked the other way while thug detective Matthew Alan Thomson bashed and humiliated his ex-wife and daughter.
